Artist Statement
My practice aims to spark conversation and debate around some of the complex and divisive issues that define modern society. Recently, this has led to a series exploring feminism and sexuality, with a focus on the the ongoing cultural practice of female genital mutilation.
As such, my work is not always pleasant to the eye,
rather, represents a connection between the visual and the conceptual that has nothing to do with beauty. Through bold use of structure, abstraction and colour, I hope to invoke emotion within the audience. The colour scheme, although personal, varies from subject to subject, mostly using a wide palette in order to communicate the emotional dynamic.
